Leslie Thomas

Leslie had been quartered at Dunkirk (the village outside Canterbury, not the one near Calais!) and commissioned into the R.A.F. as a Flight Lieutenant - he visited the airfields in Kent to conduct dental clinics by riding his motorbike through a war zone, from the Battle of Britain up to D-day, during which time Kent was under constant bombardment by the Luftwaffe. On two occasions he was blown clean across his surgery; the latter occurrence was to subsequently trigger a brain haemorrhage that ended his military service and almost his life.
